Glenora Wine Cellars is a true pioneer in the Finger Lakes wine industry, holding the distinction of being the first winery on beautiful Seneca Lake. The winery was founded in 1977 by a group of visionary individuals, including independent grape growers Gene Pierce, Eastman Beers, and Edward Dalrymple, alongside businessman Howard Kimball. Their shared passion for winemaking, combined with the passing of the Farm Winery Act of 1976, paved the way for the winery's creation. Officially opening its doors in May of 1978, Glenora quickly gained acclaim for its first vintage, winning multiple medals at the New York State Fair wine competition, and establishing itself as a respected name in the wine world.

Over the years, Glenora’s growth mirrored the expansion of the Finger Lakes wine region. In 1987, the winery underwent significant growth, expanding its production facility and adding a retail sales area to accommodate the increasing number of visitors. This expansion also saw the introduction of The Wine Garden Café, the first winery restaurant on the western shores of Seneca Lake. As the years went on, Gene Pierce and his partners, including Scott Welliver—who had become an integral part of the winery's success—continued to elevate the winery’s offerings. In 1999, the creation of The Inn at Glenora Wine Cellars and Veraisons Restaurant provided guests with a unique opportunity to experience farm-to-table dining and luxurious accommodations at one of the region’s most iconic wineries.

Today, Glenora Wine Cellars is owned by Gene Pierce and Scott Welliver, who have become not only partners in business but lifelong friends. Their shared values and varied experiences have played a vital role in the continued growth and success of Glenora and the Finger Lakes wine industry as a whole.
